Marble plaque taken from the walls of the Citadel (army barracks) Cairo Egypt. The 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers served at the Citadel in 1898, prior to the battle of Omdurman in the Sudan. They returned in 1934 and were still in Egypt at the outbreak of the Second World War. St. George proud, facing right, with motto banner above and below : V/1st Bn The Northumberland Fusiliers/1898/1934 (black lettering).
